'Moroccan Blue' Leads Top Fashion Colors for Fall 2005

Moroccan Blue topped the list of colors at New York Fashion Week’s Fall 2005 collections, according to Pantone, Inc., the global authority on color and provider of professional color standards for the design industries.
Each season, Pantone surveys designers showing at New York Fashion Week and collects feedback on prominent collection colors, color inspiration, color philosophy and each designer’s signature shades. This information is used to create the PANTONE Fashion Color Report.

"What is most directional for Fall 2005 is the intriguing combinations of colors ? Glazed Ginger and Moroccan Blue with the accent of Moss; or Rattan, Gloxinia and American Beauty," observed Leatrice Eiseman, executive director, Pantone Color Institute?. "Blue Turquoise, spring’s dominant color, has matured into Moroccan Blue, a deep, vibrant teal. Rich browns are also extremely important for Fall 2005, from spicy shades like Glazed Ginger to darker chocolates. Meanwhile, Rattan exemplifies yellow’s new, burnished direction."
Designers like Anna Sui, Tracy Reese, Peter Som and BCBG Max Azria used copious amounts of Moroccan Blue throughout their Fall 2005 collections. Moroccan Blue appeared as a coat at Marc Jacobs, as dresses at Donna Karan, as a jacket at Jeffrey Chow, and as embroidered shantung at Oscar de la Renta.
Glazed Ginger was strong at Jeffrey Chow in solids and as the background of plaids, and at Bill Blass in a paisley-printed cashmere coat. Francisco Costa used Glazed Ginger patent leather for a coat, jacket and skirt at Calvin Klein. American Beauty grew wild at Michael Kors and blossomed as blouses and skirts at Lela Rose. Narciso Rodriguez, Carolina Herrera, Diane von Furstenberg, Monique Lhullier, Tracy Reese, Behnaz Sarafpour and Proenza-Schouler also chose American Beauty for their collections.
Deep, intoxicating Ruby Wine appeared as long gowns at Ralph Lauren, a slinky dress at Vera Wang, a sleeveless dress at Luca Luca by Luca Orlandi, and a tiered skirt at Oscar de la Renta. Atmosphere, a taupe-gray, was prevalent at Zac Posen, Proenza-Schouler and Peter Som. Carolina Herrera and Marc Jacobs chose tweeds in Atmosphere, while Luca Luca used it for coats, dresses and soft floral prints. It appeared as a satin coat and pant at Chado Ralph Rucci, and as a tuxedo at Baby Phat.
Zac Posen employed lots of Burnt Olive in evoking Old Hollywood glamour. Diane von Furstenberg and Proenza-Schouler offered head-to-toe Burnt Olive, while Vera Wang and Bill Blass showed it as jackets. Marc Jacobs made ample use of rich Gloxinia purple in skirts, dresses, tops, and a rugby-striped sweater, while Anna Sui used it in her signature prints and plaids. Designers such as Ralph Lauren, Michael Kors, Vera Wang, Carolina Herrera and Luca Luca chose Gloxinia for special pieces in their collections.
Rattan, the season’s soft yellow, appeared as a trumpet-sleeve jacket and in soft prints at Carolina Herrera, in pleats at Lela Rose, and charmeuse at Zac Posen. Calvin Klein and Monique Lhuillier also chose Rattan. Moss appeared as a dress at Monique Lhuillier, a dress and skirt at Calvin Klein, a dress and double-breasted coat at Proenzer-Schouler, and a top at Vera Wang. BCBG Max Azria and Bill Blass by Michael Vollbracht made liberal use of Burnt Orange in solid, plaids and prints. Chado Ralph Rucci, Anna Sui, Oscar de la Renta and Zac Posen also used Burnt Orange for punch in their collections.
