than the Beta version. I thought they would make some more changes to make it lock-step with other Adobe products, but I chose to buy it because of the Adobe interface and I heard that Flash was a pain to learn. I feel when Adobe comes out with the next version they will address these concerns. For example look at what they did with InDesign. Over all I found it easy to learn, but, I also hated to loose my command 0 to get a full screen view. Dan Weaver
I have used both Flash and LM, and i prefer LM. the reason i prefer it is becuase it compliments the way i design. i will admit it has some shortcomings, but so does flash. don't get me wrong i am no flash guru. but for the 75% of us that just use it for creating web presentations, or some basic interactivity it (in my oponion) is a much more designer friendly program to use. i know flash has been around alot longer, but does anyone remember what flash 1.0 was like (I sure do). so i think that right now it is my choice, and in the future it will give flash a run for it's money.
Some of the Livemotion features complained about in this artilce come from Adobe ImageStyler, like the cropping tool. The interface is very familar to ImageStyler users. You can import Imagestyler IST files into Livemotion. The reviewer doesn 't even mention ImageStyler and just talks about how the program is different from other Adobe applications.
liveMotion is better than Flash in many aspects, including:
1. bitmap handling;
2. design vector tools;
3. color features;
4. object approach (object-based, not layer-based).
5. timeline.
Livemotion has problems, but I think its problems are different from these pointed on the article. LM does not handle text very well, does not import AI and EPS files correctly and cannot have objects larger than 1024pix. Besides this, the SWF export generates larger files than Flash.
But the way the crop tool works or the lack of a stroke feature are not very important. Although it could be better to have these points working as in Illustrator and Photoshop, I'd prefer to see the other problems solved.
Obviously, a future scripting tool and a wider behaviors set will be very welcome. But by now LM offers an easy-to-use, powerful and flexible tool set to creat web graphics.
I too was disappointed with the final product release...touted as the "Flash-killer", I was ecstatic about the possibilities of a new "object oriented version of Flash" -- or better...what we got was a clever little animation program that falls far short of the standards set by Flash. LiveMotion DOES have some exciting advantages over Flash, but the overwhelming shortcomings can never convert veteran Flash users.
As a Flash user, I certainly agree that LiveMotion presents a significant learning curve after being brain-washed into the Flash doctrine. Stick with Flash for now...and hope that version 5 programmers will take a very close look at Adobe's animation package and perhaps incorporate some of its exciting features and benefits into the next release...
Its just a bit more stable
