Great info

When viewing the photo at 50%, if it looks oversharpened, it probably is. Back off on the amount of unsharp mask. Newsprint can take alot of sharpening, though.

Great summary!

Good intro to unsharp masking, something that I have not really understood. I'm assuming that the "Sharpen" filter is doing this exact thing with certain preset conditions. Understanding those conditions (pixel, radius) gives you more control than the canned presets do.
