This update is great even for InDesign users...
I'm always surprised by the vicious negativity of readers that follows any Quark articles mentioned on this website. Regardless whether you've switched over to InDesign or not, Quark is a great application, and any upgrade keeps Adobe in the competetive ring. Competition is the arena for innovation. Imagine if we were all still stuck using an early version of PageMaker, Ventura or ReadySetGo!. I don't want to see Adobe build a monopoly over the graphic design industry. Freehand is already doomed, and I expect Illustrator will start to languish without any competitors. Long live XPress, and I can't wait for my upgrade to arrive!
Quark is Dead To Me
After absolutely awful experiences with Quark's customer service, I made the leap to InDesign CS two years ago. The switch was smooth as could be and I haven't once looked back. I have no plans whatsoever to use Quark again beyond converting my legacy files to InDesign. Having met Sandee at the InDesign conference in Boston, I highly value her opinion. I think Quark can only continue to play catch-up with InDesign.
Begging for forgiveness
OK a new quark is out, I wonder do you need to get a dongle for it? Seems quark now wants to care about the little guy...sorry but too late. The little guy already found a company that cares enough not to outrightly insult the individual customer. Quark lost me years ago when after buying their product I had to wait weeks for a dongle to run it. Sour grapes... you bet...sorry express you are too slow.
A love/hate situation
I love that InDesign is now doing catchup to Quark. That is the way it is suppose to work... two companies fighting for my attention and leapfrogging each other to please me! I just hate that I have learned from experience (Pagemaker>Quark>InDesign) that my page-description program life will never plateau (or maybe I love that.... I'm confused).
InDesign & Creative Suite are too much for Quark
InDesign and the Creative Suite are simply too much for Quark overcome. Quark will always be a far off second from here on out. It does not really matter what they do anymore as they cannot 'really' compete with the power of the Creative Suite paired with InDesign.
