It's nice to know that some other people what to look for in a great upgrade. But you could have talked about all the great new features that IR3 (image ready) has.

Greets. Loved your Photoshop 6.0 article... very informative. I overlooked a few of the features you talked about and appreciate it.
I've been using Photoshop since 1.0 on all platforms... with thousands of hours flight time. My biggest peeve about 6 (and 5.5) is ImageReady.
Is there any way to strip it out?
I've concluded that adding it to PS was a knee-jerk reaction by Adobe as MM loomed on the scene and focused on the web.
Knowing and living pixeltheory in relation to compression and web-happy file sizes, IR doesn't do a bit of good for me. Instead of my save as .gif .. i have to wade through a wave of wizard screens, or 'save for web' annoyances... blah, blah... i could go on for hours, but wanna get outta the office already.
Conclusion: Love all the 6.0 features, just give me a button that lets me CHOOSE not to install imageready and strip the unGodly beast from my career-making, beloved, Photoshop.
Most of the hype about Photoshop 6 is just that. I agree with -e, ImageReady is a DAWG of a program that ought to be an OPTION.
Many of the "new" features have been around for years. Painter has had the ability to mix shapes and pixels since version 4.
The real improvements to Photoshop are the less visible improvements in color management, print simulation, etc. Much of the rest is mainly fluff.
By the way, the new Options Bar is BUTT UGLY. If I wanted a program that LOOKS like Corel Draw, I'll buy Corel Draw. NO WAIT-I'll quit my job and seek spychiatric help!

Have I missed something, or is there really NO tutorial with Photoshop 6 (as with other versions). Where is Russell B. when you need him???
Thank goodness for articles (and authors) such as this one.

Great
It's good to know the differences in an upgrade to see if it's worth the hassle of upgrading
ImageReady is a blight
