InDesign is very intuitive
I strongly agree with your review. I tested Quark against InDesign and found the Adobe product much more intuitive and easy to learn. Too many things were just too hard to find with Quark.
FYI: There is an InDesign plugin that will do over 404 frames for $100.
Great review!
QX more stable, prints better
I work with both ID 1.5 and QX 4.1 on daily basis in a split workflow for print and pdf files from both applications; I favour Xpress because it loads faster, it's less prone to crashing or unexpectedly quitting, it lets me open fonts on the fly, has better page handling and printing controls.
I've seen a beta copy of Indesign 2.0 which promises yet more bells & whistles, but frankly I suggest Adobe has become the Microsoft of the graphics industries; they KNOW the core code should be fixed and that the product is getting to be unstable bloatware. Quark's robustness & ongoing usability, on the other hand, testify to the elegance of a coding job well done.
Love InD's interface, Qxp better for press
Service bureaus can't stand all the bugs in InD... they like getting my files in Qxp, as do the people running the presses... better printed results. I'll switch as soon as InD straightens out issues like trapping etc.
indesign rescues crashed QXP docs
Indesign rescues QXP files that wont open in qxp. Has saved my bacon several times, Still like to use qxp. fewer printing problems.
How is it on the presses
Quark has some down falls, but I know when I sent a Quark document to the press. I am going to get what I sent. Indesign has had some issues and the more you pille into it with handling psd doc and transpances the move room for color issues and errors.
quark vs indesign
i switched to indesign for the same reasons. i don't care for dashes and stripes, so i wil not switch back...
I never liked Quark's interface, or customer service.
Quark lost me long ago with it's customer service. I've been using InDesign since version 1 and I'm waiting for my copy of version 2, it looks fantastic. Also, web features don't mean a thing. I use GoLive for web design and InDesign for print and I'm fine with that.
