I don't fly that much, but prefer a plane to a long drive. It's much safer and more cost effective if you think about time wasted on the road-and what about the engineering that makes that hunk of metal fly-it's as awesome as that retro advertising!
Gene and I had a debate about the original version of this piece late in the night and he decided to change its focus. Only problem was we didn't post his revision in time...
Whoa, Gene, this was a depressing article. Usually I'm laughing and wondering where you find some of your examples. But this one is true and a little sad. I used to love flying, but it's a little demeaning. I think this is why Southwest has done so well. They don't make any pretense that they're luxurious. They're just a source of transportation.
The airlines don't advertise their mechanics and shops because if they do have an accident (And they will because, as Bender said in the Breakfast Club, "screws fall out all of the time, the world's an imperfect place..") someone will sue them for false advertising.
Keep up the great work Gene.
PS Hows the real Metal Madness coming along?

Statistics say that you're still safer on a plane than in a car!

Sad, but true
I agree mostly with Gene here, but this one is a little dark...
Maybe he's justified.
Let's try this again...

So here's what he meant to say. ..
