Never knew about Position tool

Even though I've been using InDesign CS with PageMaker Plug-in Pack for a while, I never knew about the Position tool! I'll make sure that my other users know about this tool also to avoid accidentally altering shapes when just moving/cropping objects.

Liked PageMaker, LOVE InDesign

I'm one of those "ardent" PageMaker users. I just upgraded to InDesign and love it. It is a bit more Quark-like, only done MUCH better. There are some quirks that take getting used to, but they are all minor (baselines of text are done differently, can't screen back an EPS file ala PM, that kind of thing.) The author is mistaken - you can open PageMaker 7 documents without the plug-in pack. I've been doing it for about a month now without any problems. Granted, I do not use the data merge feature. So for anyone waiting to upgrade, the time is now. You won't regret it!

Give PageMaker Respect!

PageMaker vs Quark = Beta vs. VHS = Mac vs. IBM

Yes ID CS can read PM 7 files

We transposed some version numbers in an earlier version of the story. The information is now accurate.

pagermaker vs. indesign

I am new to page maker. I friend of mine asked me to take over some filyers & brochures he does so I need to buy a problem. He used pagermaker 7.0 Should I purchase page maker or would I be better to buy indesign, but will in open his files from 7.0.
Please help THANKS

less ripping of Pagemaker and more information, please.

I can't believe the author taught Pagemaker for years and doesn't even know that there is more than one master page! This article spends more time turning a nose up to Pagemaker users than providing useful information about the benefits of Indesign. The company I work for has thousands of documents in Pagemaker, and in attempting to convert docs into indesign, found out both how tedious Indesign can be. For instance the "double arrow" routine with the dual selection tools in Indesign can be largely accomplished in Pagemaker by a single selector and crop functions, a very quick and easy task.

The author really wants a bullet and numbering feature?! What a joke, as if it's so hard to type it! More templates? I use old documents as templates. Pagemaker has more features with manipulating text, and also excels in the gradient features of vector graphics, which don't transfer into Indesign. For my money, I'd rather buy a used pre-Intel mac G4 and run OS 9 classic with pagemaker than deal with the planned obsolescence BS of Adobe.
