This is a great tool - thank you, Samuel John Klein! I had once hit some keys that converted my text to outlines in Xpress, and had been trying to figure this out until I saw this article. This will be particularly helpful, as my clients are forever asking me to use different fills and outline colors in XPress and I couldnt accommodate them the way I wished to. Very worthwhile reading!

Gluon Outlines XT is a free XTension for QuarkXPress 4, 5 or 6 that improves on the built-in "Text to Box" feature by working a little more like Adobe Illustrator's "Create Outlines" feature. It can create outline text in the same location as the original text, delete the original text box, apply the same color and tint as the original text, convert multiple lines at once, and convert individual letters into separate boxes. For QuarkXPress 6, use version 2.0. For QuarkXPress 4 and 5, use version 1.02.

In 2002 we made the adidas World Cup campaign using a white image in text-to-picture-box on a red image in a hexagon on the main visual. It's was a simple fix. In 2003 we got InDesign and could do it all in InDesign with a tranparency layer.

I am having a problem when I text to box my print. Every now and then, when it convert to a picture box it fills in all the centre's of my o's with a white background and I can't change it to any other colour, also if I place it on a picture it fills in the centre of the o in white. Is there any way to fix this?

Even more text-to-outline power: free
