Sumi-e is more than a filter

To make this technique work, you need to pick photographs that also match the aesthetic of Sumi-e. A huge part of Sumi-e is how it distills a subject to its essential elements and employs a deft use of space. These photos with all their glitter and ornamentation just aren't suited to the filter. Instead of trying to force a photo into that mold, consider evaluating which photos already evoke the principals of Sume-i before applying the technique.
