Good, straightforward tips. I appreciate the focus on eliminating background clutter--something I tend to overlook at times, as I am usually so intent on the subject, I forget to look for distracting objects, colors, etc. in the background.

Tip 7 suggests trimming foliage that is obstructing view; this i adamantly disagree with. Better to tie off branches slightly adjust position. The branches or leaves one trims may have been the subject for another, and moreover, this can be destructive to the plant.
If EVERYONE took a seashell, collected corral, or clipped a bough....well you know the rest.

Shooting Jewelry?
I have to shoot some close-ups of costume jewelry, I'm using closeup filters, a tripod. and remote, and unhappy with the details. Any advise?
