I had cause yesterday to strip a footer out of a document that the source file was no longer available for. Acrobat had captured the footer as part of the main body text and when I deleted letters, the body text would move with it. Not great!
By chance I discovered that one could select the text and choose the colour 'none' which suited my purposes just fine. Not a great solution but hey... I think most users reading technical articles here just want to get out of a hole!

"Breaking this link eliminates one of PDF’s big benefits -- the file fidelity between the source document and the PDF."
When I found out I could edit the text in PDFs, I was alarmed for this very reason. I'm glad I'm not the only one who isn't necessarily all ga-ga over this tool.
