Thanks, Chad, for the reminder about how photos—like life—can be more interesting if we live in the layers. Your tutorial will add some pizzazz to the spec job I start tomorrow. That little bit of color variation painted on the second layers makes a big difference.
I tried to do this 'how to' in elements 5.0 but stuck on step 5-6. When I delete all of the black pixels I get a completely blank layer.
Do any of the contributors think about us Elements users when they create the 'how tos'? Wish I could afford PS but as a full time student the best I could afford was an academic version of Adobe Photoshop elements.

Re: Great reminder
No problem, Rikka, I saw that ad and loved the look, so thought I'd write a tutorial on how to create that effect. Good luck on your spec job!

Steps 5 & 6
I too got stuck there too, until I realized I needed to click the eyedropper on the original, not on the smaller image open in the window.
Step 5 is incorrect for PS CS3
Just so you know, I had to enable/tick the "Invert" option In the Color Range dialog box to get the desired result.
Bidu
Hi, buddy! Try to put screens from the last part. It makes easier to understand!
Thanks!
