Could you elaborate as to why you don't reccommend this method for press-ready PDFs? Have you experienced processing RIPs not "holding" the change, or is it just that you have not tested it?
I work in preflight and have slipped into the habit of making most of my PDF edits in Illustrator. I will now be able to eliminate that step and all its associated problems in many situations. Thanks for making me look a little smarter!
The next time you need to add text to a PDF in Acrobat Pro, try the Text Box tool. It's part of the Comment group, so go to View mcitp certification Comments & Markup to access it. Unlike most of the other comment tools, text you enter in a Text Box remains visible all the time; it doesn't close up to an icon like a pop-up note. (Like all comments, though, you can choose to Hide it, which might come in handy.)
I have used the text box to add to PDFs, but didn't know how to make the changes a permanent part of the document. The only thing I could think of was locking the document with a PW. Now I see there are two way to do this. Thanks!
...how I did change the typewriter tool text. It involved a lot of attempted clicks and ins and outs, and finally I found the combination. Can I repeat it? Wish I could!
Actually, what I'm seeing is the opposite behavior for the Typewriter tool vs. the Comments & Markup Text Box. In Acrobat Pro 9.3 my Typewriter tool offers the full range of fonts installed on my system. But the C & M Text Box offers no choice of fonts; properties gets me bold, italic and underline,
I work for a professor and have been fixing some of his scanned publications for record keeping. i have been doing this for two years and have always had trouble keeping my additions permanent, this tip works for anything you add that you want to keep visible, even if you use the shape tool (like i do) to mark out a bad photocopy shadowing spots.
I have created a text box but I can not change the font. How do you do this. The typewriter is there with font sizes but it is not affecting my text box. Thanks in advance
Why not for press-ready PDFs?

Print Comments
Hi. You can also use the flatten PDF plugin to flatten all comments. This is also good if you do not want your changes to be changed.
