PNG???

The PNG format also may be valid, but was not discussed. I often look at all 3 formats to see which is the best looking for the smallest file size.

Re: PNG???

I did not include the PNG format as it is not completely and consistently supported by all browsers commonly used by most viewers.

Sidenote regarding text in images

In addition to file size, a couple of other things designers should consider before saving text as an image:
1) Accessibility - remember to include the full text in an alt tag so that screen readers can provide speech for those with vision impairment
2) Localizability - remember to provide the localization team with the original image with the text so it can be translated for other language versions of the site

4

Compression

I think you have the compression and quality interchanged... eg: 10% compression cannot deliver a smaller file size than 100% compression!

Disappointing...

Overall, a rather disappointing article :(

Why not use PNG instead?

What is the point of comparing two old and limited file formats if in most case the more modern PNG file format is much better than both?

This site is as outdated as its articles

If the page would have shown comments below the article, I wouldn't have raised a point that others already made.
