Adobe Updates Mobile Creation Apps

Adobe presented users of two of its mobile apps a year-end gift in the form of updates. Both Photoshop Sketch and Illustrator Line saw new features and improvements in late December.

The free updates make the apps compatible with additional styluses—including Pencil by FiftyThree and Wacom’s Intuos Creative Stylus 1 and 2 and the new Bamboo Stylus Fineline. The Pencil stylus adds the convenience of palm rejection for more natural drawing hand position and brings “flip to erase” capability (known in the old days as simply “erasing”). The Wacom styluses give you quick access to Sketch and Line’s color and tool selection, via the stylus touch button.

Improvements to Illustrator Line include improved shape selection, featuring a more visual approach. The UI lets you quickly see all trace and stamp shapes for ease of selection. Photoshop Sketch brings the ability to change the input tool size, including those created in Brush CC. Tapping and holding on a tool in Sketch now gives you a size slider for more precise customization.

Both Sketch and Line will continue to backup your creations to your Creative Cloud account, but the apps now feature auto save and recovery. Both apps will save periodically to shield you from lost work due to an iPad crash or drained battery. In addition to the new features, the updates include bug fixes and performance enhancements. Both Sketch and Line are available for iOS only at this time.
