This Brochure Has a Secret

Solstice Advertising recently came up with an ingenious print piece for Alaska Public Radio. It acts like an oversized brochure but also incorporates a pocket to hold even more materials. And because of the smart construction, this piece needs neither glue nor staples.

In the video below, Trish Witkowski of the FoldFactory shows you just how Solstice Advertising came up with this solution to a marketing problem. They wanted a print product that could hold light materials, but they didn’t want the typical heavy pocket fold. Their final gatefold design can function as a brochure and a mini-poster. And, because the design includes an inverted short fold that comes up from the bottom, the printed piece even incorporates a glueless pocket.
After experimenting with different papers, they settled on 78 pound topcoat cover, which Trish says “feels substantial but not as stiff as a regular pocket folder.” To make sure the folded piece didn’t wrinkle, they diecut little channels in the sides of the glueless pocket.
