For some people, Flickr works well. For others, its simplicity can be more frustrating than freeing. When people who feel limited are also software developers, the result can be a Flickr app.

Flickr has taken the first step toward making those apps more accessible to every Flickr user by creating the App Garden.

Unfortunately, the App Garden isn't divided into categories; in fact, navigation is almost non-existent. The closest you'll get is a tag cloud on the right-hand side of the garden's page:

Here are a few of the more interesting apps I discovered while browsing the App Garden:

Dopiaza's Set Manager: Automatically creates Flickr sets based on tag or text search, date taken/uploaded, interestingness, or location.

Then and now: Takes historic geocoded images from Flickr Commons contributors (and select institutions that have released their work under CC licenses) and displays them with their modern day equivalent views using Google Streetview.

Flickr For Busy People: Displays a list of your Flickr contacts who have uploaded photos in the last 30 minutes, two hours, four hours and eight hours.
