Freudian Glyphs: The Sigmund Freud Typeface

Let’s “kick” off the week with a cool new font-related Kickstarter project. This one is the brainchild of Harald Geisler, a typographer in Frankfurt, Germany. The project (which has already surpassed its initial funding goal by a factor of ten) is to create a font based on the handwriting of Sigmund Freud. Natually, the name of the project is “A letter to your shrink.”
Geisler drew inspiration for the project from seeing Freud’s letters, and both the Sigmund Freud Museum in Vienna and the Freud Museum in London have given him digital copies of Freud’s manuscripts as source material for the font.
For a pledge of $10 or more, you can get a copy of the font when it is completed.

If Sigmund Freud isn’t your cup of tea, there are plenty of other celebrity fonts available from foundries like P22, where you can get fonts based on the handwriting of such artistic luminaries as Edward Hopper, Paul Cezanne, and Vincent van Gogh.
