InDesign How-To: Adding Custom Sizes to the Page Menu

Of course making custom page sizes if nothing new. But here's a handy InDesign CS trick for adding those custom page sizes to your Page menu so you can call it up at anytime.

Every designer has the need to create a custom page size every once in a while. But if you regularly need custom page sizes, it can be a pain to redefine the specs. InDesign has a nice feature that lets you add custom page sizes to the Page Size pop-up menu.

That means what was once a custom setting is now a preset available in your Document Setup dialog.

If you're an InDesign user and you routinely make odd-size documents, then you'll want to read this clever how-to, written by Adobe InDesign evangelist Tim Cole.

We've posted this feature as a PDF file. All you do is click the link "Adding Custom Page Sizes to the Page Size Menu" to open the PDF file in your Web browser. You can also download the PDF to your machine for later viewing.

Nice, but what I'd really like . . .

Customizing your software interface is always helpful, especially to streamline production. What I'd really like instruction on is customizing printer's marks. According to the manual, this is possible, but it refers you to online help, and no search I've done in their on-computer help or their on-the-web help has found these instructions.

Be careful with this feature

An Adobe tester confirms a bug that the documents created are incorrectly portrait orientation when the width value is greater than the height value.

unecessary tip

you can do the same thing from the dialog box, using the
'custom' setting, then saving it as a preset
