MyFonts, a subsidiary of Bitstream Inc. (NASDAQ: BITS), announced today that it has sold its 1,000,000th font.
Karl Turkel, of Treehouse Animation, New York, who downloaded the 1,000,000th font, will receive $2,944 of font spending money as part of the MyFonts 1,000,000th font giveaway, the result of donations from participating MyFonts foundries and designers. The milestone was achieved at 5:30 p.m. on January 17, 2005. Mr. Turkel purchased the font Draft Beer from Font Mesa, a foundry out of Naperville, Illinois, founded in 2000 by typeface designer Michael Hagemann.
"I was first turned on to MyFonts by our lead designer, Antoine Veliz. The site is a huge resource for us. From the quantity and selection to the user-friendly interface, it is always our first choice when selecting a new face for a project," explained Karl Turkel, winner of the MyFonts 1,000,000th font giveaway. "Funny enough, the Draft Beer font that I purchased was for our President, Royce Graham. Royce is an avid model airplane builder and flyer. He needed some graphics for his latest Midwest AT-6 creation... and Draft Beer fit his 'Texas Tornado' theme just perfectly!"
"We are delighted that MyFonts has achieved the one millionth font milestone in such a short period of time," stated John Collins, Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of MyFonts. "We focus on allowing everyone, not just graphic designers, to find, try, and buy fonts online. Offering over 39,000 fonts from almost 200 font foundries across the globe, we are now well on our way to being able to provide easy Internet access to every font in the world."
