New Xerox Black-and-White System Offers Best Image Quality and Fastest Scanner Among 'Light Production' Printers

Xerox Corporation (NYSE: XRX) has announced the Xerox 4110 Digital Copier/Printer, a 110 page-per-minute black-and-white system that lets customers produce jobs as diverse as maps, booklets and direct-mail pieces with industry-leading image quality and the fastest scanner in the light production market. The light production segment includes systems that average print volumes of 80,000 to 350,000 pages a month.
"The 4110 is solid as a rock," said Alex Vidal, senior vice president, Superior Group, a full-service document management company in Washington, D.C., that tested the Xerox 4110. "Since it was installed, we have really put it through its paces – printing, copying and scanning. The Xerox 4110 has already reduced our labor costs and the time it takes for us to complete a job."
"Higher copy and print resolution, a more productive scanner, larger total paper capacity, and a greater range of supported paper weights are all factors that separate the 4110 from existing offerings," said Jim Hamilton, director, On Demand Printing and Publishing Consulting Service, InfoTrends/CAP Ventures. "This product is well positioned to address the light production segment, which is the fastest growing part of the black-and-white copying market with a 9.2 percent compound annual growth rate."
Designed for small-to-medium-sized print shops and large offices, the 4110 digital copier/printer offers customers features such as:

  • Dual-head scanning. The Xerox 4110 is the industry’s first light production device to feature dual-head scanning technology, which means it can simultaneously scan both the front and back of a document at 100 impressions per minute at 600 x 600 dots per inch. Competitive devices slow down when scanning double-sided pages. In addition, it offers maximum productivity because people can scan documents and program future jobs while the machine is printing.
  • Image quality. The new system sets an image-quality benchmark for this class of printer, printing at 2400 x 2400 dots per inch. The copier/printer uses Xerox patented EA (emulsion aggregation) toner – a super-smooth form of "dry ink" with uniform particles – to deliver consistent image quality and high reliability throughout long print runs. Toner can be replenished while the system is running, boosting productivity.
  • Paper handling. Able to handle heavier and larger paper sizes – up to 13" x 19.2" and 140 pound index – and with extensive in-line finishing capabilities, the Xerox 4110 quickly and easily produces a wide range of jobs including reports, maps, brochures, engineering documents, saddle-stitched booklets, and C- or Z-fold booklets and mailers. It has a maximum 8,225-sheet paper capacity and up to eight paper trays. Its standard configuration features 100-sheet stapling, a two-and three-hole punch, and a post-process inserter that can insert pre-printed black-and-white or color pages into a document. An optional booklet maker finisher is also available.

"The Xerox 4110 trumps competitive products. It gives customers the features they need to produce jobs easier, quicker and with a consistent high image quality that you would expect from more expensive, high-speed, higher-volume digital devices," said Quincy L. Allen, president, Xerox Production Systems Group.
The Xerox 4110 joins the Xerox 2101 Digital Copier/Printer as part of Xerox’s light production offerings. In the black-and-white market, the 2101 has been widely accepted within offices, quick print shops, in-plants and central reprographic departments, and the Xerox 4110 is designed to deliver even more functionality for those environments – increased scanning productivity, more flexible substrate handling, enhanced finishing capabilities and improved image quality.
The Xerox 4110 will be on display in Xerox booth 213 at Graphics of the Americas, an international graphic communications show in Miami, today through Feb. 6. Order taking and installations for the Xerox 4110 Digital Copier/Printer will begin March 1 in North America, Europe and Latin America.
The U.S. manufacturer’s list price with a basic finisher is $56,550 for the copier and $63,050 for the copier/printer. The list price with the booklet making finisher is $61,800 for the 4110 copier and $68,300 for the 4110 copier/printer. Options include the folding unit for $5,700 and the high-capacity paper feeder for $2,700.
