Quark's New App Studio for HTML5 Digital Publishing

3

The world of digital publishing continues to mature, with new tools that make it cheaper and easier than ever to create interactive publications for the iPad. Recently, Adobe announced that Creative Cloud subscribers could publish an unlimited number of apps through its DPS Single Edition. Now, Quark has capitalized on their acquisition of PressRun and announced a new version of their App Studio product, which will bring all the features and benefits of HTML5 to users.

What are those HTML5 features and benefits? According to Quark’s press release, they include the following:

  • Searchable, fully selectable text
  • Promote sharing, tagging, bookmarking, and other social media interactions
  • Deliver small file sizes for quick download (titles created with App Studio are typically one quarter the size of apps created with alternative solutions)
  • Reach iPhone, iPad, Android, and Kindle Fire now
  • Deploy quickly to new devices as they are released
  • Utilize QuarkXPress or InDesign for content creation and larger organizations can combine rich design with XML automation
  • Keep content in an open standard that does not lock customers into proprietary formats

With Quark App Studio users can publish to the iPad, using Quark XPress, HTML, XML, or even InDesign documents as a starting point.

Examples of apps created with App Studio include BBC Good Food, My Ford, and Stuff magazine.

According to Quark, the new version of App Studio will be available within the next 30 days. In the meantime, you can visit Appstudio.net to read more about the new version, sign up to be notified when it becomes available, and check out other resources like the free PDF Ultimate Tablet Handbook.

HTML 5 is such a great platform for mobile application development, currently not many companies uses it for development but in coming years this platform will be the most preferred one.

Html 5 is one of the best platforms for development of iPhone or Android apps. As a developer you just need to know one language with which you are already well versed. HTML 5 has powered developers with more flexibility to work on wide number of platforms. Being into iPhone development, I like prefer HTML 5 and CSS 3.
