Speedier Sony D-SLR Cameras Debut
Sony's Alpha line of digital single-lens reflex (SLR) cameras just added two new family members: the SLT-a77 and SLT-a65. The company says that the new models deliver "blazing speed, enhanced image quality, high resolution and incredible performance".
The a77 and a65 both have 24.3 megapixel sensors. Sony says that the a77's continuous autofocus (AF) is the "world's fastest": 24 megapixel images at 12 frames per second. The a65's shooting speed clocks in at 10fps.
Both cameras can also capture full HD videos at 60p (progressive) frame rates as well as still photos.
The a77 will be on sale for about $1,400 (body only). You can also buy it with the new SAL1650 f2.8 lens for about $2,000. The a65 body will cost about $900, or you can get it with an 18-55mm lens for about $1000. Both models will ship in October of this year.
Proving that it's worth the extra money, the a77's impressive ISO range is 100 to 16000. The a77 also has a three-way adjustable screen that tilts and pivots.
