Twitter Does Rebranding Right
More tales from the Land of Rebrand. Last week I had fun piling on with the rest of the internet in giving thumbs down to Kraft’s rebranding their snack division as something called Mondelez.
But this week, the news is of a company doing rebranding right. Twitter has decided to consolidate its branding into one updated icon of Larry the bird.

As Twitter’s branding guidelines show, the familiar lowercase t, the cartoonish bird, the tufted bird, and the spelled out name are all out.
Compared to the old bird, the new one has a clear uplifted feel. From the curves of the feathers to the overall tilt of the bird, everything seems to be on the rise.

Note how unlike Kraft, Twitter merely tweaked their branding to improve it. They made a small change in the blue color, while keeping the basic shape of the icon, and of course, their name. Seems obvious, until you think about how often companies do it wrong.
Twitter also posted a neat little YouTube video that shows the new logo coming together out of circles that represent tweets.
