Webdesigner Depot has published a primer on digital image resolution. The author, Ben Gremillion, is a Web designer himself, and his hands-on expertise shows in his clear explanations of dpi versus ppi, resizing and resampling in Photoshop, and more.
Whether you're new to the Web or brushing up on the basics, this article is a valuable resource. It also has many useful illustrations, such as the one below that shows two devices with different pixel dimensions:

Thanks, Terry!
Thanks for the comment, Terry -- I value all feedback, but especially when it's as thoughtful as this.
I'm curious -- what do you think of "The Truth About Resolution," an article that's somewhat related? http://www.creativepro.com/article/the-truth-about-resolution

Disappointed
Hello Terri,
After all these years, I still consider CreativePro as a must-have resource in my bag of tricks. CP is on my shortlist of credible, useful and in-depth sites whenever I share out to seasoned designers or new. I've even forgiven the occasional "re-publishing" of an old article since they are usually worthy of a second look anyway. However, I must say that this particular article is not up to par with your standards. Of course, it definitely has the "packaged" look and feel of a well-written and compelling topic, yet it simply falls flat in concept and accuracy. Please take a closer look at the information in the article and also share it with credible professionals throughout the industry and if you still deem it is factual and worthy of CP endorsement, then I stand humbly corrected.
Thank you,
