In the early days of the Web, most designers were perfectly happy to remain above the programming fray. They’d focus on aesthetics and let the nerds handle the complexities of making the design work. Web masters and engineers were likewise content to guard their secrets. Letting a designer into the process would only gum up the works.

The days of large, segregated Web development teams are long gone. Thanks to tighter budgets, faster turnaround, and more complex content, building today’s Web sites require designer and developer to work in concert. Not only is this integrated approach more efficient, it’s also more fun.

In this excerpt from “Integrated Web Design: Building the New Breed of Designer and Developer,” you’ll understand why the old rules of keeping design separate from programming don’t apply.
