What's New in Adobe Creative Suite 3

On March 27, 2007, Adobe finally stopped teasing us with pre-announcements of announcements and officially revealed full details of 13 newly upgraded products that are in some version of the Creative Suite 3. Let me repeat: 13 apps upgraded at the same time. It’s like Adobe was a giant can of Coke someone put in a commercial paint mixer turned on high, then popped open so all the new stuff came foaming out at high velocity.
To avoid splashing your nice clothes with too much information, I’ve focused this overview on five of the upgraded CS3 apps: Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, and Flash. Note that I’m not reviewing the apps. A team is working on the reviews right now, but the apps aren’t even shipping yet. Until those writers receive final code in a couple weeks, I won’t unleash their opinions on you. Instead, what you’ll see in the articles linked below is my distillation of the major new features.

Many Suites for Many Groups
With all those apps crossing so many boundaries, Adobe created several versions of the Creative Suite. Here’s what they include, and how much they’ll cost you.

CS3 Master Collection: $2,499 standalone, or $1,999 if you own more previous versions of the Creative Suite or Studio 8, Studio MX 2004, Studio MX, or Adobe Production Studio. Applications include InDesign CS3, Photoshop CS3 Extended, Illustrator CS3, Flash CS3 Professional, Dreamweaver CS3, Contribute CS3, Fireworks CS3, After Effects CS3 Professional, PremierePro CS3, Soundbooth CS3, Encore CS3, Acrobat 8 Professional, Bridge CS3, Version Cue CS3, Device Central CS3, OnLocation CS3, and Ultra CS3.
Except for the CS3 Production Premium and CS3 Master Collection, all individual applications and the collections they’re in are expected to ship between April and June of 2007.

Great start for a complex assortment of applications… but, whatever happened to GoLive?

  • anonymous says:

When Adobe merged with Macromedia, GoLive clashed with Flash/Freehand or one of the other Macromedia products. They were too similar.

You know the rules, if two companies merge & they have the same personnel, the one who bought out the company gets to fire the one without money.

If might get gutted for its parts, but I doubt it. So say good-bye to GoLive!!
