I would love to hear the argument that birthed these... um... squares with letters. Icons and logos have discrete purposes. These have a great deal of neither. Letters are not icons are not logos. IMO, unobtrusive distinction is the best you can ask for in a desktop icon. I agree that after a week of use, icon descriptiveness becomes frosting, albeit admirable frosting.
