E-books: the technology isn't there yet

I've thought about them, perused the demos and even have some Mark Twain installed on my Palm, good for reading while waiting for the elevator, etc. but I'm convinced of this: the technology just isn't there yet. First, these things are fragile. Don't read it in the bath-tub or at the beach, and definitely don't drop it, or you lose not only the reader but any books you've installed on it.
