Ambigrams

I remember the original master of this artwork, Scott Kim, who published 'Inversions' back in 1980. I find it amazing how Kim and Langdon can find the symmetry to create these calligraphic cartwheels. A perfect art for signs and book covers.

Buick

I remember when my dad bought a big, yellow 1973 Buick Estate Wagon. We were satisfied with the 10mpg highway we achieved in our vacation trips across Texas. Not too bad for a 455cu engine. Quick a difference from my brother-in-law's Opal.

There is an Italian Food Restaurant that uses the same type. If I did not know what kind of store Michaels was, I would by-pass it or go there for some good expensive eating. The original was old and the tagline let's people know what is there. Not everyone knows Michaels.

Rock'em Sockem' Robots

My first conjured vision of the logo was the Rock'em Sock'em Robots boxing game. Block robots fighting it out. But Randy the Rooster here at work sees an adult act with the male on the left and a woman on the right.

Forget the logo, I'm hoping Terri didn't get into the parachute pants kick too!

You left out polka's major influences

I know this article is about graphics, but you left out polka's strong influence south of you. The spanish 'Tejano' music, which is very popular latin music, is a great mix of spanish music styles with the German accordion polka. The late Texas latin pop singer Selena (www.selena.org) sang mostly Tejano before her pop stardom. The most popular radio station in Texas is Tejano.
