iBook and Comet
Side-by-Side

The iBook looks noticibly bigger when sitting open next to the 2400c. |

...but not so much when they're closed, and next to each other. |

One key difference between the two is the keyboards. The 2400c has a tightly-packed keys that require a somewhat cramped typing style than a standard keyboard. Also note the relative sizes of the trackpads and buttons. |

Straight on from the front, the smooth lines of the iBook enhance the perception of slimness. |

Looking straight down on the 2400c and the iBook stacked is where the real magic becomes apparent. When the iBook is ready for use, all of its features are more expansive -- bigger keyboard, trackpad, trackbutton, and more usable screen real estate. But when it's time to pack the iBook away, it is only marginally larger than the 2400c. |

...except, of course, that the iBook is thinner. |

Oh, and did we mention that, unlike the PPC 603e-enabled 2400c, the G3-equipped iBook can run Mac OS X? The 2400c was a great machine for its time, and will still serve the needs for a lot of users. But if you are looking for the latest technology in the smallest, most elegant package, the new iBook is worth some serious consideration. |
