Gene Gable's refrigerator looks nothing like the ones in the ads from 1940 to 1967 that he scanned for this week's column. In the ads, fridges are always fully stocked and gleaming with cleanliness. On the other hand, they also show unwrapped gelatin molds next to unwrapped slabs of beef. Can you say "ew"?
