What Temperature Sounds Like and Other Insights
As a creative professional, you're probably accustomed to perceiving your work and, in fact, your entire world visually. But what if you listened to it, too?
That's the question asked by SoundAffects, a multi-tiered project conceived of and conducted by Parsons The New School for Design. The SoundAffects project monitored a block on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan for one week, recording data for changes in light, temperature, movement, connectivity, and color.
That data maps to sounds that form a weeklong musical composition; for example, when traffic is moving fast, you hear quick, pulsing beats. And coming back around to our eyes, the data also feeds a vizualizer that interprets sensory data using blocks of varying colors and shapes, so you can see the unexpected ways that a rainy afternoon differs from a sunny morning.
Shake up your perspective a little. Explore SoundAffects online.
