    Editor's Corner
    You'll Love This Library

The original purpose of the United States' Library of Congress was to give members of Congress a place to research issues. But over the centuries, the Library has amassed so much and such varied material that just about anyone - including creative pros - can find something of interest. And thanks to the eight blogs the Library publishes, you don't have to go to Washington and sort through dusty stacks to uncover a treasure.

For example, the performing arts blog has a weekly feature on sheet music. One of those old covers (usually downloadable as a high-resolution file) could inspire your next project:

"Picture This" is devoted to the Library's 14.5 million photos, posters, cartoons, blueprints, and prints. Another blog is the voice of the Copyright Digitization and Public Access project. Browse all eight Library of Congress blogs here.

Scanning Around With Gene: Clever Things to Make at Home

Many industrious or crafty people choose to make gifts instead of buy them from a store. This DIY mentality is nothing new, as Gene Gable proves with scans from Popular Mechanics issues that run from 1939 to 1954.
