I've been designing logos and Identity projects for over 20 years (OK, I'm old.) In the early days we used to create the final artwork, then make a logo sheet or reproduction sheet with multiple versions of the artwork in many sizes and configurations, then provide instructions for printing in color and 4-color. With the advent of electronic media, this practice was antiquated and we began releasing the "electronic file" with no logo sheet...but now we say the logo includes an electronic file and the client wants a jpg, eps, png, tif, gif and they want it in Black and white, one color, two color, four color CMYK, RGB in file sizes for web, powerpoint, print, exhibit, signage...and they want everything in a reverse version as well. That's as many as 60 electronic versions for one logo...and it takes a lot of time to prepare all this artwork and label it correctly. We're trying to figure out a way to create a separate line-item for a suite of logo files that is in addition to our Logo/identity design fee. Has anyone else encountered this?
I have not encountered this
I have not encountered this at a personal level but I do have some idea of what it takes to resave logos in different file formats. Have you ever thought of about counting the clicks? Then come up with a resonable charge based on number of clicks it takes to save out each additional option.
Good topic. I've noticed
Good topic. I've noticed this in my own design business.
It's getting complicated, especially when you have to explain to the customer how to use them properly. They usually want to JPEG everything.
It's time to sit down, record the time to do it, and bill appropriately!
