Hi
I want to set up an XML document for updating our staff business cards.
I understand the concept of creating the business card template and applying styles to the following tags
eg:
employeeAddress
employeeEmail
employeeName
employeePhone
employeeFax
employeeMobile
I can't find info on how to create the variable "employee details"
that I need to import into my document.
to match the tags above eg:
123 Mystreet, Mytown, Qld, 4000
info@myemail.com.au
Jill Blogs
07 1234 5678
07 1234 5679
0419 0419 0419
I am obviously not searching for the correct terminology. Any suggestions most welcome.
thanks
Sue
Where variable details come from
Hi Sue,
If I understand what you're asking, the things that change in business cards -- employee name, title, etc. -- would normally come from a database. The process would look something like this graphic:
I took that graphic from an XML article in the June/July 2006 issue of InDesign Magazine (http://www.indesignmag.com/backissues.php). There's a follow-up article in the August/September 2006 issue, and we just published another XML intro article in the April/May 2008 issue.
I can give you a special discount on a magazine subscription (including all back issues) if you write to me at tstone@creativepro.com.
