Hello all,

I have a question about PS-Elements but wasnt sure where to post it and hence posted it here!

I want to know how to make the surroundings of a photo darker--as in completley dark such that only the central part is seen..but blurred!

We are trying to make patient education info about 'glaucoma' and wanted to show people the difference between normal vision and vision of a person with glaucoma.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glaucoma

If you see the above link...there is a picture (you'll need to scroll down) on the right hand side--under Risk factors subheading-- of two boys---I am trying to create the effect as in the second bottom pic of the 2 boys (vision loss from glaucoma)

Any help is appreciated.

THank you for your patience

-KJ

blurred

Did you want the center of the image blurred? It doesn't seem to be blurred on that image at wikipedia? Not much anyway...

blurred more...

I see that you maybe meant that the black should be blurred...
1. choose the elliptical marquee tool
2. make a circle on the image that is the size you want. Hold down shift at the same time if you want it perfectly circular.
3. move the circle by placing your mouse inside the circle and hold down left mouse button so you get it where you want.
4. go to select and choose inverse
5. go to select and choose feather and set it to 30 on a image that is 500px wide. (A higher value on bigger images. Just try it and undo and do it again if you're not satisfied.)
6. go to edit/fill and choose black and click ok.
finished.
