On a Mac using Quark 6.5 I have a document in which 9 tif images with clipping paths are showing up just fine when the file is exported as a pdf, but two others, which seem to have all the same settings, are not. They show up as though a dark mask is over them, although they look the same as the others on screen in the layout (and at one point a few weeks ago printed out okay). I tried saving the pages as eps files and they looked okay until I distilled into pdfs in Acrobat Distiller. Then they appear exactly the same--as though a dark mask is obscuring them. Tried at one person's suggestion setting them for clipping to alpha channel instead of embedded path, but that didn't work either and it doesn't really make sense why all others set to clip to embedded paths would work but not these two. Opened both in Photoshop and compared with the ones that are working but see no apparent differences there either. Any ideas as to what is going on and how to remedy? Thanks.

Clipping paths puzzle solved!

A good friend was over for dinner and I mentioned my dilemma to him. He recalled having had problems with images that had transparency in them, and sure enough, when I went back to the Photoshop images, the two that were causing problems both had transparent backgrounds. When I flattened the images and then reimported them into Quark, they worked as desired. Hope this helps someone else at some point.
