InDesign 5 can't generate TOC. Can you help me,please?
Written by Erika ErikaAUG on September 10, 2011
I’m learning InDesign 5 from scratch all goes well, but when tried to make a Book got serious problems with creating TOC by following the instructions in Help.
The situation is - when I set TOC by the manual and click on the page, just a blank text box appears displaying only the title I gave to TOC ( “THE Book contents”) but nothing else!
I could make TOC by hand but want to learn how to make InDesign to do this.
The book consist of 3 chapters, TOC page and Index page properly saved as .indd documents entered in a “My new book” document I’ve created.
iPad Apps for private distribution
Written by Matt Mayerchak on August 26, 2011
I saw James Fritz's overview of iPad publishing plugins in InDesign Magazine #43. Great article – but it overlooked one very important and expensive aspect of the current state of iPad app publishing – namely the requirement that the apps be distributed via the App store.
What happens if you want to make iPad apps that don't get distributed via the App store?

InDesign's Rich Black: What values are used and Appearance of Black preferences setting?
Written by Jay Gelnett on November 22, 2010
I found a preference for Rich Black in InDesign. Previously I always created my own Rich Black swatch in Quark and InDesign at 70, 70, 70, 100. I noticed the Rich Black preference and I recently changed the Printing/Export option for Rich Black to output all Blacks accurately. The reason I did this is because I assumed the default setting (Output All Blacks as Rich Black) would explain why small type I created in PS to be only 100k black (zero for other 3 color values) turned out to be Rich Black upon export and printing and made the small text a little blurry. Is this a bad/dangerous thing to do?

Creating an editable brochure
Written by Teri Beauchamp on October 14, 2010
I was asked to create an "electronic brochure". Basically, the client would like me
to create an 'editable' PDF brochure. They are translating the brochure in different
languages and would like to simply drop in the translated text into the PDF on their own.
Is there a way in InDesign to do this? Any ideas?
Indesign CS4> Links Panel> Dimensions to INCHES
Written by kc logan on August 30, 2010
I love the Links panel, but it would save me so much time if I could figure out how to get the Dimensions column in the Links Panel to display the original images height and width in INCHES, currently it shows me PIXELS -
Any one know where to change this, I'm hoping its just a setting - I haven't found anything yet under the Edit>Preferences that changes this :(
Master page items reappearing when I move pages around
Written by Laura Chevalier on February 18, 2010
Hello,
Perhaps there is a simple solution or explanation to this. I always use master pages and styles for our internal documents. However, whenever I shift pages around, the master items (such as text boxes image boxes) reappear on the pages. Why does this happen?
Thanks.

Indesign Styles - Linking Styles to a master document like Cross references
Written by Justin White on October 25, 2009
What im asking is, is it possible to link a styles attributes ( e.g BULLETS) to a document that has a master BULLETS style.
What would happen when I change the master files BULLETS style, is it would update all the documents in the book to meet the master docs BULLET style.
I've done this by creating a template doc (.indt) and using that, but a bunch of styles have changed and its a pain in the bum to go back and import styles, and replace with incoming for EVERY chapter/doc.
Is there a way to update styles much like cross references or page numbers?

INDesign/INCopy workflow
Written by E Roy on August 12, 2009
Anyone know how to save InCopy changes to an assignment so that it does not affect all other assignments?
I.e. I have flyer templates that I'd like to allow in copy users to change portions of the text for their specific purposes but I'd like them to not update the master file when they do this (so that that master file keeps its original text). I've tried saving the file under a new name and place but because they are all linked to the same assignment folder, it updates all documents instead of the new file.
Anyone know the answer? Thanks in advance!
Creating a book with InDesign CS3
Written by stina h on June 11, 2009
Hi everyone!
In a few weeks I will be working on a book (several hundred pages long) so I'm now trying to research the best ways to go about it. It'll be mostly text, charts and vector graphics.
I know there is a book option in InDesign, but what are the actual benefits other than file size and not having to scroll through hundreds of pages to find something?
Screen Refresh too slow in CS3
Written by Barbara Shuck on April 16, 2009
I am using CS3. I telecommute and copy InDesign files from our firm's server to my hard drive. When I open the file from my hard drive, it is very difficult to navigate between pages. I realize the links are lost, but that should not affect the image refresh time, should it? I can take 15-30 seconds to refresh the page, and it's very frustrating! A colleague who also telecommutes has the same problem. We do not have the problem when we are working with the file from the server. Help!
Thanks!
