Adobe Systems has revealed an unusual dot-five upgrade to several of its products, including the following:
After Effects 5.5
Flash Catalyst CS5.5
Flash Professional CS5.5
InDesign CS5.5 Server
Premiere Pro CS5.5
There are also 5.5 versions of the Creative Suite collections, including Design Premium, Design Standard, Web Premium, Production Premium, and the Master Collection.
The mid-cycle software updates are largely driven by the rapidly rising popularity of tablets and other mobile devices.
Adobe Systems is encouraging software developers to create mobile and tablet apps using the new Photoshop Touch Software Development Kit (SDK).
Adobe is priming the pump by creating three apps: Adobe Color Lava for Photoshop, Adobe Eazel for Photoshop, and Adobe Nav for Photoshop. All three are designed to work with, not replace, Photoshop. Although they run only on the iPad, the Photoshop Touch SDK can also support Android, BlackBerry Tablet OS, and the iPhone.
Tych Panel, developed by Reimund Trost, is a free extension to Adobe Photoshop that automates diptychs and triptychs creation. It supports an arbitrary number of layouts using the compositing feature.
Tych Panel is open source and can be used, modified, and redistributed in any way you want.
Note that Tych Panel uses an HTML Widget that was introduced in Creative Suite 5, thus it cannot work for earlier versions of Photoshop.
Evolphin Software announced the immediate availability of Zoom 2.8. Incorporating direct feedback from Evolphin user community, Zoom 2.8 provides major improvement in usability, performance, tighter integration with popular creative tools, enhanced Adobe Creative Suite plug-ins for InDesign and Flash, large previews and a new MacOS X Finder plug-in. The new features make for a more intuitive user interface for artists and designers upgrading from Adobe Version Cue or those who are completely new to version control.
Silent Film Director, the app by MacPhun LLC, makes your videos look like Silent Films from Charlie Chaplin times, Retro Music Clips from the days of Elvis Presley and Marilyn Monroe or something completely different - depends on where creativity and talent lead you.
You could call this Photoshop how-to "Deke... In... SPAAAAACE!" In this eight-minute video, I'll show you how to go from a plain black rectangle to a cosmic scene complete with stars, planets, and space gas.
All it takes is Photoshop's Add Noise and Gaussian Blur filters, some Levels adjustment, strategically placed Lens Flare, and you'll have a universe suitable for Web and print projects.

2:3. 3:5. 4:3. 16:9. If your designs have to accommodate the many aspect ratios and screen resolutions that proliferate in the mobile device market, these numbers are all too familiar. Certainly Punchcut (a company that designs user interfaces for a whole raft of devices) knows the pain you're feeling. Punchcut's designers have suffered through it themselves. Now they're sharing the fruits of their experiences--and a handy set of tools.
The toolset includes the following:
