Biography

I started out owning a type house in Denver, Scott Group, working on the alternative newspaper Westword, as well as catalogs and programs for the arts community. Most of my clients were art directors who taught me all about great typography (sometimes till 3 in the morning).

When they all got Macs and started to do their own type, I felt sorry for them. After all, they were visual artists being forced to pay attention to details that previously they'd left up to their trusted specialists. I began consulting them to help them make their type look better. Now I have a full-fledged editorial and proofreading service called Final Eyes. I edit and proofread text but also alert the designer if there is a problem with the type (i.e., needs kerning, tracked too tightly, etc.)

I also sometimes make editorial changes right in the InDesign document (like on Durango Magazine and Oklahoma Living Magazine) so the designer doesn't have to transfer my changes from a PDF into an InDesign document.

I love language, and type can be its fullest expression.
